Cascade Hops – American Classic Dual-Purpose Variety
First pioneered in the 1950s at Oregon State University by Jack Horner and his team, Cascade hops have grown to become one of the most iconic and widely used hop varieties in the world. Officially released in 1972, Cascade now accounts for roughly 10% of all hops grown in the United States.
Cascade is cherished for its distinct citrus-forward profile, offering spicy grapefruit and floral notes that shine in a wide range of styles. While its storage stability is relatively low, this is rarely an issue due to its immense popularity and rapid turnover from major breweries.
Developed through open pollination of Fuggle (UK) and Serebrianka (Russia), Cascade is named after the Cascade Mountain Range, which stretches from Northern California to British Columbia. Today, it remains a cornerstone of American Pale Ales and craft brewing worldwide.
