East Kent Golding – The Quintessential English Hop
East Kent Golding is often regarded as the ultimate English hop. With origins dating back to 1790 in Canterbury, Kent, it is descended from Canterbury Whitebine and has been a cornerstone of English brewing tradition for centuries. Though sometimes confused with Canterbury Golding, historical evidence suggests the two are the same variety, with “East Kent Golding” becoming the dominant name by 1838.
Traditionally grown in Kent, this hop variety has also thrived in Oregon since its introduction there in 1994, producing even higher yields while maintaining its celebrated aroma and flavour.
Aroma & Flavour Profile:
East Kent Golding is famed for its delicate yet complex aroma of lavender, honey, spice, and subtle thyme. On the palate, it provides an earthy, mildly bittering quality balanced by a smooth, sweet, honey-like character.
