Closed-Loop Steam Condensers: NANO-X NextGen Compact Steam Condenser
The NextGen Compact Steam Condenser is a Closed-loop or passive condenser design—one that:
Doesn’t inject additional water,
Uses air or a heat exchange to condense only the actual steam,
Outputs a predictable, measurable volume of liquid (equal to wort evaporation),
And requires minimal oversight during the boil.
Most steam condensers on the market work by spraying cold water into the condenser, forcing steam from boiling wort to condense rapidly. While this seems effective at first glance, it introduces a major drawback: uncontrolled dilution.
For example, a 40L batch of wort with 10% evaporation should produce around 4L of steam condensate during a typical 1-hour boil. However, with water-spray condensers, the collected liquid often far exceeds this volume due to the introduction of extra cooling water, making it difficult to monitor and manage.
Inaccurate volume tracking: You can’t easily measure true evaporation loss.
Messy operation: Excess condensate must be drained or disposed of, often warm and containing hops or wort residue.
Brewer workload: Constant attention is needed throughout the boil, defeating the purpose of automation or simplification.
This package suits the 150L, 100L & 50L NANO-X NextGen lids included with the purchase of a NANO-X NextGen SV’s package.
